About Le Piscine (Scogliera delle Piscine)

Le Piscine is a stretch of smooth pale granite on the south-west coast of Elba, in the municipality of Campo nell'Elba, between the sandy bays of Fetovaia and Seccheto. The name means 'the pools': the sea washes over the flat slabs and fills hollows in the rock, leaving shallow natural basins warmed by the sun, with clear deep water just beyond for snorkelling. There is no sand and no beach establishment, only granite shelves stepping down to the sea, with maquis scrub above and the slopes of Monte Capanne behind. The rocks are a long-standing naturist spot, and the official Tuscany tourism site includes Le Piscine in its feature on Elba's naturist and gay-friendly beaches. Nude bathers spread out along the slabs away from the road, and the shore faces south-west, so it gets sun until evening. Because the rock gets very hot and there is no shade, mid-morning and late afternoon are the most comfortable times, and a thick mat makes a big difference.

Getting there

From Marina di Campo take the coast road (Via della Costa) west past Seccheto towards Fetovaia. Park in the roadside lay-bys between the two villages; spaces are few and fill early in July and August. From the road a short path runs down and along the cliff to the slabs, a few minutes on foot but uneven and rocky, so wear proper shoes. Not wheelchair accessible; bars and toilets are in Seccheto or Fetovaia.

Legal context

Italian law does not treat simple nudity as a crime (indecent acts were decriminalised to an administrative offence in 2016), but municipalities can ban it by ordinance and the Court of Cassation has held that nudity is tolerated where it is customary. No Campo nell'Elba ordinance about Le Piscine was found (2026); nude use here is long-standing and tolerated, not designated.

Naturism at Le Piscine (Scogliera delle Piscine) sits under Italy's rules for private property — the operator sets clothing-optional policy within their licence.
