About Kollevåg badestrand
Kollevåg is a public outdoor recreation area (friluftsområde) on the west side of Askøy, the island municipality across the fjord from Bergen. The area has two main bays, Meavågen and Vestrevågen, with swimming beaches, lawns and paths. Its official naturist beach is at Mjøsneset, a headland reached by a side path signposted 'Nakenbading tillatt' (nude bathing permitted). Norsk Naturistforbund describes it as a small official naturist beach with a grassy area and a strip of sand. The water gets deep quickly, which suits confident swimmers more than toddlers. The naturist beach has rubbish bins but no toilets. The wider recreation area has accessible toilets in both bays and a bathing ramp for people with reduced mobility in Vestrevågen. Tents are allowed in Vestrevågen. The beaches of the recreation area were raised and resown in spring 2018. Kollevåg is very popular with Bergen residents on warm days, and the car parks fill up, so the naturist federation encourages visitors to come by bus.
Getting there
Buses 494–499 run on Askøy, and route 495 goes towards Ramsøy. You can also take the boat from Nøstekaien in Bergen to Kleppestø and change to a bus. Get off at the first stop after Tveit gravkapell (after Ramnanger), then walk about 15 minutes along the road signposted Kollevåg. Cross the second car park, follow the asphalt path for about 200 m, and turn right onto the path to Mjøsneset. Two car parks hold about 140 cars, and parking on Friluftsvegen is banned. The gravel road suits prams and wheelchairs.
Amenities
Legal context
Norwegian law does not forbid nude bathing as such. Nudity is an offence only if it is indecent or offensive in the circumstances. Norsk Naturistforbund lists Mjøsneset in Kollevåg as an official naturist beach, and the path to it is signposted 'Nakenbading tillatt'. Clothing is normal in the rest of the recreation area.
Naturism at Kollevåg badestrand sits under Norway's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.
