About Kalvøya naturist beach
Kalvøya is a wooded island in the inner Oslofjord just south of Sandvika in Bærum, owned by the municipality and linked to the mainland by a footbridge from Kadettangen. It is one of Bærum's most popular bathing spots, drawing up to 20,000 people on a sunny summer weekend, and combines child-friendly sandy bays, smooth rock outcrops, pine forest and meadows. The naturist beach is on the east side of the island, away from the main bays, Store and Lille badebukt, on the west and south. It is quieter than the family beaches. The north of the island is a nature reserve, the centre has Bronze and Iron Age burial mounds, and rare plants are protected, so flower-picking is banned and dogs must be on a lead.
Getting there
Take the train or bus to Sandvika; from the station and bus terminal it is only a few minutes' walk to Kadettangen and the footbridge. There is parking in several places in Sandvika within short walking distance; driving onto the island needs a special permit. Cross the bridge and follow the paths to the east side. The main bay has a low stone edge suitable for prams and wheelchairs, but the paths to the naturist area are rougher.
