About Hidden Beach
Hidden Beach is a gravel bar on Fish Creek at the northern edge of Fish Creek Provincial Park in south Calgary, close to Macleod Trail. It is used clothing-optional by Calgary Nude Recreation (CNR), a local naturist group that spent about two years looking for a suitable spot and has used it since summer 2020. The site sits at a bend in the creek, screened by a cliff on the north side and tall vegetation on the south, so there are no sight lines from roads or the busy park pathways nearby, and casual walkers rarely find it. It is more creek than beach: the water level depends on the season, running high and fast after snowmelt and shallow and gentle later in summer, with a few spots deep enough to dunk in. The gravel bar has room for a fair-sized group. There are no amenities. CNR publishes a code of conduct: no photos without permission, no staring, no sexual activity or cruising, and pack out everything. The group describes this as one of Calgary's lawful nude areas and says it informs the Calgary Police Service of its outdoor activities, but the site has no designation and no signs.
Getting there
Park at the Glenfield day-use lot (14428 Bannister Rd SE, near Macleod Trail) and follow the day-use area and bike paths most of the way; the last section is a faint trail through vegetation that is easy to miss, so save the location in your phone's maps. CNR advises against approaching from Canyon Meadows Drive because of a steep cliff and a creek crossing. From the north, the nearest bus stop is on the east side, followed by a walk along the river and west into the park. Not wheelchair accessible.
What visitors say
Those who find it describe a genuinely secluded creek-side spot, quiet and close to the city. Reviewers warn it is not a real beach and not a swimming spot for most of the summer, more a place to sit by a creek, and that the final trail is hard to follow. Walk times quoted range from about 10 to 30 minutes depending on where you start. There are no amenities.

Legal context
Canada's Criminal Code (s. 174) makes nudity in a public place an offence, but a prosecution needs the consent of the provincial Attorney General, which is why tolerated beaches exist. Only Wreck Beach and Hanlan's Point are officially clothing-optional (FCN, 2026); Hidden Beach is in a provincial park and has no designation; Calgary Nude Recreation says it has been acknowledged by officials, and it notifies Calgary police of its use. Alberta's park regulations prohibit disturbing others' enjoyment of the park.
Naturism at Hidden Beach sits under Canada's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
