About Great Perhaver Beach
Great Perhaver is a small, secluded sandy cove on Cornwall's south coast just north of the fishing village of Gorran Haven, between Mevagissey and Dodman Point. It is separate from Little Perhaver, the village beach, and from Vault Beach on the other side of Gorran Haven, which is the area's better-known naturist beach. The cove faces south-east, catching the morning sun, and the cliffs throw some shade over it in the afternoon. A stretch of sand at the foot of the cliff gives way to rocks to the north that are rough going even at low tide. Because the only land access is a difficult path down from the coast path, the cove sees few visitors and is used informally by naturists. There are no facilities. The headland at Great Perhaver Point is occupied by a private house, and the road along the clifftop is private, so stick to the coast path.
Getting there
Park in Gorran Haven near Perhaver Park Road (around PL26 6JN). Walk north out of the village on the South West Coast Path, which follows private Cliff Road, past Great Perhaver Point, then continue along the cliff path where it turns inland and runs parallel to the coast; look for the steep, rough path down to the cove. Some visitors reach it from Little Perhaver around the rocks at a very low tide. Not suitable for wheelchairs or young children.
Legal context
There is no official naturist designation here; nude use is informal. There is no designation scheme for nude beaches in England and Wales; simple nudity is not an offence, and the Sexual Offences Act 2003 exposure offence requires intent to cause alarm or distress.
Naturism at Great Perhaver Beach sits under United Kingdom's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
