About Giruliai naturist beach

Giruliai is the northernmost seaside district of Klaipėda. It sits at the quiet end of the Melnragė–Giruliai coastal strip, a Baltic sand beach backed by dunes. Beach guides describe it as the most remote and least crowded part of the city's coast, which is why nudists favour it. Klaipėda's mainland beaches are divided into functional zones under the Giruliai detailed plan approved by the city council in 2005, the year the nudist beach is reported to have opened. The municipality's beach rules define a nudist beach as a sign-marked section open to people of all genders who bathe without swimwear or with only part of it. Unlike the women's beaches in Melnragė and the men's beaches across the lagoon in Smiltynė, it is mixed. TV3 has reported that the nudist section at Giruliai was doubled from 200 to 400 metres. The sand is fine, but in places the seabed has boulders and stones, so watch your footing when you go in. The Baltic here is cool, and the beach is most pleasant in July and August.

Getting there

Giruliai lies on the northern edge of Klaipėda, on the road towards Palanga. Driving is the easiest option, and local buses towards Giruliai and Palanga stop in the district; parking details are not published. Paths lead from the district across the dunes to the beach, where signs mark the nudist zone. Entry is free and the beach is open at all hours. The municipality reminds visitors that the beach runs from the sea to the foot of the dunes and that nude sunbathing in the dunes is a public order offence.

Legal context

The nudist section is reported as municipally designated since 2005. Klaipėda's beach rules define nudist beaches as sign-marked, all-gender sections, and a 2022 letter from the Equal Opportunities Ombudsperson confirms the city sets its nudist beach zones under the 2005 Giruliai detailed plan. No official page naming the Giruliai zone specifically was found. Nudity outside the marked section, including in the dunes, is treated as a public order offence.

Naturism at Giruliai naturist beach sits under Lithuania's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
