About Gilkicker Point

Gilkicker Point is the low shingle headland at the eastern end of Stokes Bay in Gosport, Hampshire, looking across the Solent towards Ryde on the Isle of Wight and the Spithead forts. The Victorian Fort Gilkicker stands on the point. British Naturism includes Gilkicker Point in its directory of UK naturist beaches, but its entry gives no detail about where nude use happens, and we found no other current account of it, so treat it as a little-used spot and check locally before undressing. The nearby Browndown shore at the western end of Stokes Bay was used by naturists for years, but the Ministry of Defence has asked naturists to leave its land there since 2013.

Getting there

Gilkicker Point is reached from Fort Road or along the Stokes Bay seafront in Gosport, where there are car parks along the promenade. Gosport is linked to Portsmouth Harbour by a frequent passenger ferry, with local buses towards Stokes Bay.
