About Galata Beach
Galata Beach is a wild strip of the Black Sea coast below Cape Galata, a few kilometres south of central Varna, reached down a steep wooded slope. It is a natural beach of sand and pebbles of a few hundred metres, with no lifeguards, umbrellas, sunbeds or bars, and because the way down is long and steep it sees far fewer people than Varna's city beaches. The southern end is rockier and broken into small coves, and it is this end that a Bulgarian beach guide describes as favoured by nude bathers and people looking for privacy. The water is clear but can be rough when the wind blows onshore. Fichoza beach, a busier neighbour with seasonal bars, lies just to the south.
Getting there
Drive or take a taxi from Varna towards the Galata district and Cape Galata; the last stretch is a dirt road ending at an informal parking area near the cape. From there a steep path and long flight of steps lead down through the trees to the shore, which is hard going for older visitors and small children and impossible with a wheelchair. Allow extra time and water for the climb back. Bring everything you need, as there are no services on the beach.
What visitors say
The few accounts available describe a quiet, unspoilt beach with clean water, where the difficult descent keeps crowds away. Nude bathers keep to the small rocky coves at the southern end. Visitors warn about the steep steps and the absence of any facilities.

Legal context
Bulgaria has no national law on nude beaches, and nudity is regulated through municipal public-order rules. Galata is not a designated naturist beach; nude bathing in the southern coves is informal and tolerated, so stay away from clothed visitors.
Naturism at Galata Beach sits under Bulgaria's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
