About Els arenals

Es Arenals is one of the seven sections of Platja de Migjorn, the 3.5 km beach along Formentera's south coast, lying towards its eastern half next to Es Copinar. Together with Es Ca Marí and Es Copinar it is one of the most visited parts of Migjorn, because a road reaches the beach and hotels sit behind the dunes, so it has more services than the quieter central stretches: beach bars and sunbeds for rent in places. The sand is fine and pale, with dunes and juniper and pine woods behind and clear water over sand and posidonia, though the south-facing shore picks up waves and seaweed on southerly winds. The whole of Migjorn is described by the Balearic tourism board as a nudist beach, and nudity is customary here as along the rest of the strip, but because of the hotels Es Arenals has a larger share of clothed families than the central sections; naturists looking for more space usually walk west along the shore. The beach is part of the protected Platja de Migjorn-Costa de Tramuntana natural area.

Getting there

From the ferry port at La Savina head east on the main PM-820 road towards Sant Ferran and La Mola, then take the signposted turning south to Es Arenals and the hotel area. Parking is close to the beach, and the road access is easy; bicycles and scooters are a practical alternative. From the car parks, short sandy paths and boardwalks cross the dunes to the beach. Stay on the paths to protect the dune vegetation. The soft sand is not wheelchair accessible.
