About Druridge Bay

Druridge Bay is a long, wide sweep of sand on the Northumberland coast, running from Amble in the north to Cresswell in the south, with high dunes behind it. Naturists have used a stretch in the middle of the bay for more than 50 years, according to one guide. It lies between Druridge Bay Country Park to the north and the National Trust land at Druridge village. British Naturism says naturists tend to gather near the second stream, just south of a footbridge. Other accounts put the nude stretch between the Chevington Burn and the National Trust area. Because the beach is so large there is plenty of room, but dog walkers and clothed walkers use it too, so expect to see some people in clothes. There are no facilities on the beach. Shops and a café are in Cresswell, to the south. This is a wild, open place, best on a calm, sunny summer day.

Getting there

Head for Druridge village (NE61 5EG). At a sharp right bend, turn left into the free National Trust car park and park at the far end. Either cut through the dunes and turn left along the beach, or follow the bridleway from the car park for about 10 minutes to a bridge and a 'beach' signpost, then turn right onto the sand. Druridge Bay Country Park car park, to the north, charges about £4 a day (2024). The X20 Newcastle to Alnwick bus stops at Red Row, about 2 miles' walk away.

What visitors say

Visitors say the section is a good size with plenty of room on the huge beach. The main caveat is that dog walkers and clothed people pass by, so it is not fully secluded. Visitors also stress that there are no facilities, so bring everything and take it home with you.
