About Delta de la Tordera

The Delta de la Tordera is the mouth of the river Tordera on the boundary between Malgrat de Mar (Maresme, Barcelona province) and Blanes (Girona province), at the southern start of the Costa Brava. On the Malgrat side, Platja de la Punta de la Tordera runs from the end of Avinguda Mas Bages towards the river mouth, and the final stretch nearest the river is used for nude bathing; it appears as 'Desembocadura de la Tordera' on the Club Català de Naturisme's list of Catalan nude beaches. Unlike the built-up beaches nearer Malgrat town, the area around the mouth is a small natural space: a lagoon held behind a bar of sediment, low dunes and reed beds that shelter migratory and wintering birds, with a bird-watching tower on the walking route. It belongs to the Natura 2000 network, and both councils have been working on rules to protect it, including access limits. The beach is open and exposed, with no natural shade, and the river can break through or flood after heavy rain (a 2024 flood affected the riverside campsite). Expect a quiet, mixed crowd of local naturists, walkers and birdwatchers rather than a resort scene.

Getting there

From Malgrat de Mar, follow Avinguda Mas Bages towards the sea from the level crossing on the Malgrat-Blanes road; the road ends near the beach and the campsites at the river mouth, where informal parking is available (limited in July and August). Walk north-east along the beach to the last stretch before the river mouth. Malgrat de Mar has a station on the Rodalies R1 coastal line, though the walk to the mouth is long. Paths through the dunes may be restricted to protect the habitat. There is no adapted access to the nude stretch.

Legal context

Public nudity is legal in Spain and Catalonia, and no municipal ban was found for this beach; a 2008 Maresme county beach guide described the last stretch as nudist, but that document is no longer online. The delta is a Natura 2000 site and Malgrat and Blanes have pursued access restrictions and a protective ordinance (2020s).

Naturism at Delta de la Tordera sits under Spain's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
