About CottonTail Corner Naturist Beach
CottonTail Corner is a clothing-optional river beach on the North Saskatchewan River in Parkland County, just outside the town of Devon and about 20 minutes' drive southwest of Edmonton. It was developed in 2013 by local naturists and is promoted as Alberta's first naturist beach; the Federation of Canadian Naturists calls it the province's only promoted nude beach. The beach lies upstream of the Devon bridge and is reached by a volunteer-built bush path from the Prospector's Point parking lot in the river valley. Expect a natural riverbank of sand and gravel with brush behind it rather than a groomed beach, and river water that is cold, silty and fast in early summer. It is a day-use area, open from 8 a.m. to sunset. There are no toilets, bins or food stalls, so everything has to be carried in and out. The volunteers who look after the trail organise work parties after floods. In early July 2026 the trail was closed after the river rose and damaged it; no reopening date had been announced at the time, so check the group's Facebook page before going. Some visitors say it is not obvious where nudity begins along the path.
Getting there
From Edmonton take Highway 16A west to Highway 60 and head south. Just before the Devon bridge turn right (west) onto Gramina Road (Township Road 511), the turn for Prospector's Point, then immediately left onto Prospector's Point Road and follow it down into the river valley to the Prospector's Point parking lot. Walk upstream from the lot on the lower path through the trees to the beach. The path is unpaved and can be muddy; wear proper footwear and bring bug spray. No public transport; not wheelchair accessible.
What visitors say
Visitors appreciate having a naturist river beach so close to Edmonton and the volunteer effort that keeps the trail open. Common practical notes: there are no washrooms or bins, the path gets muddy and buggy, and the point where nudity starts is not clearly marked. Expect river conditions to change with water levels.

Legal context
Canada's Criminal Code (s. 174) makes nudity in a public place an offence, but a prosecution needs the consent of the provincial Attorney General, which is why tolerated beaches exist. Only Wreck Beach and Hanlan's Point are officially clothing-optional (FCN, 2026); CottonTail Corner is promoted by local naturists but is not designated. The trail was closed for flood repairs in July 2026.
Naturism at CottonTail Corner Naturist Beach sits under Canada's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.

Naturist status confirmed against an official source on 24 October 2026.
