About Cogden Beach

Cogden Beach is on the Dorset coast south of Swyre, between Burton Bradstock and West Bexington, where Chesil Beach continues westward. It is a high bank of fine shingle and the area behind it, with the West Bexington nature reserve, is popular with birdwatchers. The top of the shingle bank hides the shore from the South West Coast Path behind it, which gives the beach a secluded feel. That is why naturists use the stretch between the National Trust Cogden car park and West Bexington. Expect only a few anglers near the access points and a few nude bathers further along. There is no shade at all, and the shingle is hard work to walk on. A user-submitted birding listing warns of adders in the vegetation behind the beach. British Naturism's description dates from a 2007 guide and was last updated in 2020.

Getting there

From West Bexington car park (DT2 9DG, pay and display, listed at about £3 a day), which has a café and toilets, walk west along the coast path for about 15 minutes to the naturist stretch. You can also use the National Trust car park at Cogden off the B3157 and walk east along the coast path for up to a mile. Both routes involve walking on shingle, and neither is suitable for wheelchairs. There is no shade on the beach.
