About Cleat’s Shore
Cleat's Shore is a remote beach on the south coast of the Isle of Arran, just west of the hamlet of Lagg and the Lagg Inn, facing Kilbrannan Sound and the Kintyre peninsula. British Naturism says it has official status as a naturist area. It is widely described as Scotland's only official naturist beach, though that claim is debated. The shore is a long, undeveloped stretch of fine sand broken up by rock outcrops, shingle and boulders, with farmland behind and no buildings in view apart from a few near the end of the track. Visitors are few and you may well have it to yourself, even in summer. Seals often bask on the rocks just offshore. The views run across to Kintyre and round to Holy Island and Whiting Bay. There are no facilities and no shelter, and the Firth of Clyde is cold even in July and August. Being in the west of Scotland, the weather decides everything; on a calm sunny day it is one of the most peaceful naturist spots in Britain.
Getting there
Take the CalMac ferry from Ardrossan to Brodick (about 50 minutes), or from Claonaig to Lochranza. Buses on the south coast road meet the ferries and stop at Lagg, about 45 minutes from Brodick. From the Lagg Inn, walk west along the road to a sign for Cleat's Shore and follow the farm track to the beach, closing all gates and keeping to the track rather than crossing fields. Drivers can park at the end of the track near the buildings by the shore. There are no toilets; the nearest are at Lagg.
What visitors say
Visitors who make the trip describe it as wonderfully quiet, with seals, clean water and big views, and they often see only one or two other people. The downsides people mention are the cold sea, the unpredictable weather and the effort of getting there by ferry and bus. Tips include picking a sunny, breezy day, bringing everything you need, respecting the farm gates and livestock, and wearing shoes for the rocky stretches.

Legal context
Scotland has no statute that designates nude beaches. Public nudity is not itself an offence, but it can be prosecuted as breach of the peace or threatening behaviour if it causes alarm. British Naturism describes Cleat's Shore as having official status as a naturist area, but no council designation was found to confirm this.
Naturism at Cleat’s Shore sits under United Kingdom's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
