About Camber Sands
Camber Sands is a long, wide sandy beach on the East Sussex coast between Rye and the Kent border, with about two miles of sand at Camber itself and a protected dune system behind. The eastern part near the village, holiday park and cafés is a busy family seaside beach, and there is no naturist area there. Naturists have long used the quiet western end, mainly the dunes and grassy hollows near Rye Golf Club and toward the outlet of the River Rother, where secluded spots are screened from the beach and the golf course. At low tide the sand stretches about half a mile out; at high tide it narrows to around 50 yards. The sand is soft and fine, with occasional pebbly patches, and a shipwreck sometimes shows at low water. Gunfire from the Lydd ranges can sometimes be heard. Bathing near the Rother mouth is hazardous because of strong currents, soft mud and tides that can cut people off. Use is low-key: on a typical weekend only a few naturists are present, and midweek is quietest.
Getting there
Take the A259 to Rye, then the Camber road past Rye Golf Club to the large pay car park at the western end of the village (reported at about £5 to £10 depending on season and stay). Take the westernmost path to the beach and turn right (west). Broomhill Sands has free parking but is on the far side. By train to Rye, the walk along the River Rother to the beach takes about an hour; bus 711 stops at Camber, about 1 km from the western end. Soft sand, not wheelchair friendly.
What visitors say
Reports span many years. Regulars describe the western dunes as quiet and private, especially midweek, with only two or three naturists on a typical day and no trouble from passers-by when people stay discreet. Problems arise when people move near families on the open beach. Complaints include parking costs, dog walkers at high tide, occasional signage and police contact, and dangerous currents near the estuary.

Legal context
Camber Sands has no designated naturist area and is not listed by British Naturism; the beach as a whole is textile. Users reported 'not a naturist beach' signs (2005) and police asking people to cover up (2010), while others reported no signs for years; discretion in the western dunes is essential.
Naturism at Camber Sands sits under United Kingdom's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.

Frequently asked questions
Is Camber Sands a nude beach?
Not officially. Naturists informally use the dunes at the remote western end toward Rye Harbour; the main beach is a family beach.
Where should I park?
The pay car park at the western end of Camber is closest to the naturist area. Free parking at Broomhill is on the wrong side.
Is it safe to swim?
Take care. The River Rother mouth has strong currents and mudflats, and incoming tides can cut you off.
Can I get there by train?
Yes, to Rye, then about an hour on foot beside the River Rother, or a bus to Camber.
