About Cala Tavallera
Cala Tavallera (also written Taballera) is a remote cove on the Cap de Creus coast, about 5 km by path north-east of El Port de la Selva, and one of the wildest beaches on the Costa Brava. It is about 170 m long, made of pebbles and gravel, surrounded by bare rock formations, with a dense Posidonia seagrass meadow offshore that makes it good for snorkelling. There is no road: it can only be reached by a walk of about two hours or by boat, so it is almost empty much of the year, although boats moor in the bay in summer. A shelter near the beach is sometimes used by hikers for the night, and Time Out notes it is also known as the Lovers' Cove. The Club Català de Naturisme includes Cala Tavallera on its 2026 list of Catalan nudist beaches, where some beaches are fully and others partly nudist; nude bathing here is customary because of the isolation, not signposted. There are no facilities of any kind.
Getting there
No vehicle access. From El Port de la Selva walk the coastal route/GR11 north-east past Cala Tamariua; allow about two hours each way over rocky, exposed terrain with little shade, and carry plenty of water. Some blogs claim 4WD access; Time Out says this is wrong. In summer it can also be reached by boat or kayak from El Port de la Selva. Parking is in El Port de la Selva or at the Tamariua car park.
Legal context
Tavallera lies within the Cap de Creus natural park, whose rules on fires, camping and anchoring apply. It is on the Club Català de Naturisme's 2026 list of nudist beaches, but the Costa Brava tourist board page does not mention nudism. Public nudity is not an offence under Spanish national law, but municipalities can regulate it by local ordinance.
Naturism at Cala Tavallera sits under Spain's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
