About Cala Naiara
Cala Naiara is a narrow strip of sand on the Maresme coast at Montgat, just north-east of Barcelona, squeezed between the coastal railway and the sea about 100 m south of Montgat station. It was formerly known as Cala Taps; the current name honours a local naturist who looked after and cleaned it. The Spanish Naturist Federation describes it as roughly 210 m long but only about 7 m wide, with golden sand and calm water, and as a quiet spot used by committed naturists. The Diputació de Barcelona's tourism portal lists it among the Maresme's nudist areas, alongside Platja de Ponent in El Masnou and La Musclera in Arenys de Mar, noting that local naturists share them with visitors arriving from Barcelona by train. There is no separate nude section; the small beach as a whole is used nude. Its main problem is erosion. In 2020 FEN reported that the sand had almost disappeared and that a sign prohibited access, although people still went. Expect very little beach at high tide or after winter storms, no facilities and the noise of passing trains.
Getting there
Take the Rodalies R1 commuter train from Barcelona to Montgat; the beach is about 100 m south of the station. Access is across the coastal strip beside the railway, and a sign has reportedly prohibited access since around 2020. There is no dedicated parking. No facilities and no wheelchair access.

Legal context
Nudity is not an offence on Spanish public beaches, and the Spanish Penal Code has not treated it as public indecency since 1989. A municipality can still restrict it by local ordinance. The Diputació de Barcelona tourism portal lists Cala Naiara as a nudist area and the Spanish Naturist Federation lists it as traditionally naturist. FEN reported in 2020 that a sign prohibits access, apparently because of erosion rather than nudity; we found no Montgat ordinance on nudity (checked 2026).
Naturism at Cala Naiara sits under Spain's rules for officially designated nude beaches — explicit protection inside the marked area.

Naturist status confirmed against an official source on 24 October 2026.
