About Cala Mica
Cala Mica is a small, undeveloped beach on Menorca's wild north coast in the municipality of Es Mercadal, between the larger beaches of Binimel·là to the west and Cavalleria to the east. It lies within the North Menorca Marine Reserve, and no buildings are visible from the sand. The beach is about 170 m long and 32 m wide, of medium-grained sand (one guide calls it orange-tinted) with rocks on both flanks and pebbles at the waterline; the entry into the sea runs over a rocky shelf, so water shoes are useful. The water is clear, but this coast is exposed to the tramuntana north wind, which can make it rough. The Balearic tourism board describes it as a nudist beach, and the whole beach is used nude rather than a separate section. It is noticeably quieter than Cavalleria, with few people even in midsummer, and attracts walkers on the Camí de Cavalls coastal path as well as people coming from the nearby car park. Cap de Cavalleria, with cliffs around 80 m high, is a short walk away for views.
Getting there
From Es Mercadal take the road towards Fornells (Me-15) and follow signs for Cavalleria on the Camí de Tramuntana. There is a car park about 400 m from the beach, from which a path with some steps leads down. Alternatively, walk the Camí de Cavalls west from the right-hand end of Cavalleria beach (about 2 km, roughly 10-30 minutes depending on start point) on a rough coastal path; sturdy shoes are advised. There is no public transport to the beach and no step-free access.
What visitors say
Visitors describe Cala Mica as a calm, uncrowded alternative to busy Cavalleria next door, with an intimate, natural feel and a relaxed nude atmosphere. Some find it less striking than its neighbours and note the rocky entry into the water and the lack of any shade or services. When the north wind blows, waves can make swimming less pleasant. Bring food, water and water shoes.
