About Cala Màrmols

Cala Màrmols (also Caló des Màrmols) is a remote cove on the south-east coast of Mallorca in the municipality of Santanyí, several kilometres north-east of the Cap de ses Salines lighthouse. It is enclosed by pale limestone cliffs, with no road, buildings or tourist infrastructure anywhere near it. The beach is small, roughly 40 m long and 35 m wide, of pale sand mixed with smooth pebbles, and the water shades from turquoise to deep blue, calm on most summer days and very good for snorkelling. Because the only land access is a long, shadeless coastal walk, the cove stays quiet even in July and August; the main company is a handful of other hikers and the occasional boat anchored offshore. Nude bathing is common: guides and the national beach listing data reproduced by property portals classify it as a nudist beach, and hiking guides note that discreet naturism is not unusual. There is no designated nude section; nude and clothed visitors share the small beach. Everything you need must be carried in and out.

Getting there

The usual route starts at the Far de Cap de ses Salines (lighthouse), where parking is free. From there a rough, stony coastal path heads north-east along the shore; it is about 5-6 km each way and takes roughly 1.5 to 2 hours, with no shade and sharp rock underfoot. Wear walking shoes, carry at least two litres of water per person and avoid midday in high summer. Direct car access is blocked by private land, so do not climb fences. The alternative is by boat or kayak on calm days, for example from Cala d'Or. Not accessible for wheelchairs.

What visitors say

Hikers consistently describe Cala Màrmols as one of Mallorca's most beautiful and least crowded coves, with exceptional water clarity. The walk is the defining feature: most call it hot, rocky and tiring, and warn that people underestimate it in summer. Once there, visitors report very few people and a relaxed attitude to nude swimming. Some mention boats anchoring in the bay in high season. Common tips are to start at first light, bring snorkel gear and shade, and take all rubbish back.

Legal context

Nudity is not an offence under Spanish law and Balearic beaches are regulated by municipal ordinances. No Santanyí ordinance or signage designating Cala Màrmols as a nude beach was found; nude use is tolerated by tradition, and no enforcement has been reported.

Naturism at Cala Màrmols sits under Spain's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
