About Cala des Matzoc

Cala Matzoc (Es Matzoc) is a wild, undeveloped cove on the north-east coast of Mallorca, in the municipality of Artà, between Sa Font Celada and Cala Estreta. It lies inside the Llevant Peninsula Natural Park and the Llevant marine reserve. No buildings are in sight, and steep cliffs partly shelter it. The beach is about 80 m long and mixes fine sand with pebbles, coarse gravel and banks of dried posidonia seagrass. Above it, on the Faralló d'Aubarca, stands the round 18th-century Torre des Matzoc watchtower. Nude bathing is common here in summer, though no area is officially designated. Mallorca's daily Última Hora named Matzoc and neighbouring Cala Torta (listed by FEN) as Artà coves where full nudity is a normal sight in season. Because it can only be reached on foot, it is the quietest of the Cala Torta, Cala Mitjana and Cala Estreta group, even though it gets busy in peak season. Swimming is dangerous when the wind is from the north-west through to the east.

Getting there

Drive from Artà on the road towards Cala Torta, whose final section is a rough, unsurfaced track. Park for free at the end of the road, without blocking paths, gates or emergency access. From Cala Torta, walk north-west on the coastal path for about 20 minutes. From Cala Estreta or Cala Dentol, allow 20 to 30 minutes. The ground is uneven, so wear proper footwear. No public transport serves this coast, and the beach is not wheelchair accessible.

Legal context

Spanish law does not prohibit nudity on public beaches. Cala Matzoc has no designated nude area, but nudity is customary in summer. The cove is inside the Llevant Peninsula Natural Park, so natural-park rules apply: no camping, fires or litter. The neighbouring Cala Torta is listed by the Spanish Naturist Federation (checked 2026).

Naturism at Cala des Matzoc sits under Spain's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
