About Cala Carbón

Cala Carbón is a small, isolated cove in the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park in Almería, on the stretch of coast between Mónsul beach and the Vela Blanca headland. It belongs to the group of secluded coves near Vela Blanca, together with Cala Arena and Cala Rajá. The national beach data reproduced by Idealista gives it about 150 m by 15 m, calm water and low occupancy even in high season, and lists it as a nudist beach; hotel and regional guides also place the Vela Blanca coves among the area's nude options. The whole cove is used nude; there is no marked section. The setting is the volcanic landscape typical of Cabo de Gata, with dark rock and bare hills behind, and the cove lies directly below the barrier that closes the dirt road to vehicles, so you can look down on it before descending. Apart from cleaning, no services are listed. The SL-A 105 Vela Blanca trail passes above it on the way to the Mirador de las Sirenas and the 15th-century watchtower.

Getting there

From San José follow the AL-3115 / ALP 901 dirt road past Los Genoveses to the car park by Casa de Mónsul; the road beyond is closed to cars at a barrier above Cala Carbón. Spain.info says to park at the end of the track and walk about 200 m; the descent is steep and there is no access for disabled visitors. Idealista lists interurban public transport as the nearest option. Check the natural park's current road rules before driving in summer. The Vela Blanca trail (3.4 km linear, about 1.5 hours) passes the cove.
