About Bloemendaal aan Zee
Bloemendaal aan Zee is the beach of the municipality of Bloemendaal, a wide North Sea sand beach west of Haarlem and Overveen, at the end of the Zeeweg and backed by the dunes of Zuid-Kennemerland National Park. The central section is lined with well-known beach pavilions and gets very busy on summer days. The nude area lies north of the pavilions, on the stretch reached from the Duin en Kruidberg beach entrance, where a sign at the entrance announces the nude beach. In 2009 the municipality designated two short textile stretches either side of that entrance, inside the nude area, which the Dutch naturist federation NFN protested; nude bathers therefore spread out a little away from the path. The beach is broad, fine sand with dunes behind and no shade. Bathing water quality is rated excellent, but North Sea currents can be strong, so swim near lifeguard posts.
Getting there
Drive along the Zeeweg from Overveen to the car parks at Bloemendaal aan Zee, or cycle through the dunes from Haarlem or Overveen; there is bicycle parking at the beach, and the beach is served by public transport in season. From the pavilions walk north along the sand, or use the Duin en Kruidberg beach entrance, to reach the nude area. Access across the dunes is by sandy paths, which are hard going with a wheelchair or pushchair.
What visitors say
The nude stretch is described as spacious and quieter than the busy pavilion area, with a sign at the beach entrance. The main conflict reported is the textile strips that the municipality created in 2009 around the Duin en Kruidberg entrance, which naturists criticised. The beach generally gets busy on hot days and parking fills early.

Legal context
Dutch law allows nude recreation at places the municipal council designates and at places where it is customary. A signposted nude area exists north of the pavilions, and in 2009 Bloemendaal municipality designated two textile stretches inside it near the Duin en Kruidberg entrance. We did not see the current municipal designation, so verify signs on the spot.
Naturism at Bloemendaal aan Zee sits under Netherlands's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
