About Tindo Nudist Club
Tindo Nudist Club is a member-owned naturist club near Lyndoch in the Barossa Valley of South Australia, roughly an hour's drive north-east of Adelaide. A community directory gives its founding as 1959. The grounds include a large clubhouse, a solar-heated swimming pool, tennis, mini-tennis and volleyball courts, and playgrounds. The club offers powered camping sites for caravans, motorhomes and tents, and members have permanent shack and caravan sites. Nudity is expected when the weather allows, and clothing is optional for newcomers who are not ready to go fully nude. The club runs open events for newcomers, such as group swims and water games, which local press has covered. Membership size is unclear. One Barossa report says the club once had more than 300 members, then fell before recovering, and I did not find a current figure. Some listing text reads like promotional copy, so the facts above are taken from several sources. Contact the club about its guest policy before arriving.
Legal context & local rules
This is a private members' club, so nudity takes place on club grounds rather than in public. I found no source on council or police positions for this site.
Public nudity is generally illegal across Australian states under indecent exposure laws. NSW Summary Offences Act 1988 Section 5 criminalises obscene exposure. However, specific beaches designated as clothing-optional by state governments are legally exempt, creating designated safe spaces for legal naturism within an otherwise restrictive framework.

View all in Australia →3 Bares Retreat
Adults-only clothing-optional naturist retreat in Koah on the Atherton Tablelands, about an hour's drive from Cairns. The property borders the Clohesy River and has flat, powered and unpowered caravan and camping sites, an on-site caravan for hire, a camp kitchen, shower block, laundry, pool and dump point. Nudists, LGBTQI+ guests and curious first-timers are all welcome, and pets are allowed on a lead.
ACT Nudist Club
Long-running nudist club for Canberra, with grounds and a pool just outside the city along the Kings Highway near Bungendore. Its by-laws describe it as a nudist club rather than a clothes-optional resort, and nudity is expected whenever practical, especially at the pool. The club has opened its gates for summer events such as an Australia Day pool party, and it has supported coastal naturist groups at events in Bermagui.
Agnes Water / 1770 Naturist Beach
Quiet Queensland coastal stretch near Agnes Water and Town of 1770 with informal clothing-optional use away from the main patrolled beach.
Alexandria Bay
Alexandria Bay, known locally as A-Bay, is a sweep of white sand on the ocean side of Noosa National Park, between Sunshine Beach and Noosa Heads on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. It is backed by forested headlands and dunes, with no buildings in sight, and faces the open Pacific, so surf and rips can be strong and there are no lifeguards. For decades A-Bay has been Queensland's best-known nude beach, with Lonely Planet once calling it perhaps the most beautiful of Australia's nude beaches. However, it has never been legal: Queensland is the only mainland state with no legally recognised clothing-optional beach. The tolerance ended in 2023. On 16 April 2023 police issued seven fines of $287 and four warnings for wilful exposure after complaints about predatory and sexual behaviour around the beach. A local MP's survey found most respondents supported a legal nude beach here, and the Queensland Naturist Association has campaigned for it, but no law has changed. Today it remains a popular national park beach for clothed walkers and surfers, and anyone undressing risks a fine.
Alfis Naturist Retreat
New clothing-optional caravan and camping ground in North Central Victoria, run by hosts Alan and Fiona and affiliated with the Australian Naturist Federation. The property was being developed through 2024 and was due to open in early 2025, so facilities may still be growing. It is aimed at naturists touring northern Victoria and the Murray region with caravans, motorhomes or tents. Contact the hosts for directions and current facilities.
Aquarius Naturist Retreat
Privately owned naturist grounds in Berrinba, about 30 km south of central Brisbane, for families and couples: 10 acres of mown lawns inside privacy fencing, with bushland and a creek. There are powered and unpowered caravan and tent sites, a shower and toilet block, a clubhouse kitchen, and occasional on-site rooms. More than twenty activities are on offer, including a swimming pool, pickleball, tennis, miniten, frisbee golf and a clay pizza oven, and monthly themed social nights are held.
