Naturism in Mexico
Mexico has no federal nudity prohibition, but municipal and state laws vary. Tourist zones (Riviera Maya, Oaxaca) are more tolerant. The Mexican Naturist Federation (FMN) promotes naturism but faces legal ambiguity. Public nudity outside designated areas risks prosecution.

Playa Zipolite
Unofficial / ToleratedZipolite is a small beach village in the municipality of San Pedro Pochutla on Oaxaca's southern Pacific coast, between Puerto Ángel and Mazunte and roughly midway between the Huatulco and Puerto Escondido airports. The main beach is about 2 km long and around 40 metres wide, with medium-grained golden sand and open Pacific surf. Nudity has a long history here: a fishing village until hippie travellers arrived in the 1960s and 1970s, Zipolite became known in later decades as a free-spirited hideaway, and it is widely described as Mexico's only beach where nudity is legally accepted, following a 2016 municipal decision. Nudism was traditionally concentrated at Playa del Amor, a small cove at the eastern end, and at the far western end, and it has spread along the main beach. Under local rules announced in 2022, nudity is allowed at Playa del Amor, at the Shambhala end and in restaurants that permit it, but not in the village streets. The undertow is strong year-round; a volunteer lifeguard group founded in 1995 posts flags showing where swimming is safest. Since 2016 the Festival Nudista Zipolite has been held each year around the first weekend of February. Beachfront cabañas, hostels and palapa restaurants line the sand.
Resorts, clubs & naturist spaces

AZULIK Tulum
Private ResortAZULIK is an adults-only eco-luxury hotel on the beach road south of Tulum town on the Riviera Maya, known for villas built in organic shapes from local wood and vines. Electricity and artificial light are deliberately limited, and Wi-Fi is restricted. It is not a naturist resort: it is a mainstream boutique hotel that has a reputation for tolerating nudity. A 2026 Mexican travel guide says nudity is allowed on its private beach and in designated spa areas, and booking listings describe the property as clothing optional, while the guide advises guests to wear light clothing in the restaurants. The hotel's own website does not mention nudity at all, so the policy is informal and may change. The group also runs AZULIK Uh May, a jungle arts centre inland. Tulum's coastal ruins and the Sian Ka'an biosphere reserve are nearby.
Hidden Beach Resort
Private ResortHidden Beach Resort Au Naturel is an adults-only, all-inclusive clothing-optional hotel run by Karisma Hotels on the Riviera Maya, at kilometre 95 of the Cancún-Tulum highway in Kantenah, between Puerto Aventuras and Akumal. It shares its gated grounds and entrance with Karisma's textile El Dorado Seaside Suites, and high walls and mangroves screen it from outside. All accommodation is in suites, each with a two-person hot tub and stocked minibar; ground-floor suites open onto the main pool and some have private swim-up pools. Facilities include a large pool with swim-up bar and volleyball net, a lounge with a small hot tub, a tennis court, a small gym, 24-hour room service and nightly entertainment. Dining is centred on one on-site restaurant, La Vista, and guests can use spa services at the neighbouring El Dorado property. Nudity is permitted in public areas and reviewers say most guests go nude for their whole stay; clothing is required in the gym and in El Dorado's facilities, guests must sit on towels, and photography rules are strict. The private beach is rocky and poor for swimming. Most guests are couples over 50, though singles are accepted.
Hotel Nude
Private ResortHotel Nude is a commercial, adults-only beachfront hotel on the bay at Zipolite, the Oaxaca beach town whose sands became Mexico's first legally recognised nude beach in 2016. It is widely described as the first hotel in town to run a clothing-optional policy, and it remains one of the best-known places to stay for nude travellers there. Rooms range from cheaper poolside rooms, which lack the sea breeze, to beachfront rooms and suites with balconies facing the ocean. The hotel has an outdoor pool with sun terrace, a restaurant serving Mexican and international dishes, a bar with service at the pool and on the sand, massage on request and free Wi-Fi. Its beach club has a DJ in the afternoons and evenings, which makes weekends lively, especially when Mexican visitors arrive. Guests may be nude around the pools and on the beach in front, where clothed and nude people mix, but clothing is expected inside the restaurant and bar. Guests must be over 18. The hotel is open all year, and the dry season from November to April is the most popular time to visit Zipolite.
Intima Resort Tulum
Private ResortIntima Resort Tulum is an adults-only, clothing-optional hotel about a kilometre from the centre of Tulum on the Riviera Maya in Quintana Roo. Its main draw is a naturist atmosphere in the grounds, which hold an outdoor pool with a poolside bar, a hot tub, a garden and a terrace. Guides differ on the house rules: one says guests may be nude anywhere on the premises, while a more recent one says nudity is allowed in many outdoor areas and that shared indoor spaces may require swimwear or attire. Guests must be 18 or older to check in. Pets are not allowed, and there is free off-site parking but no parking on the property. Listings give the room count as 30 or 44, and star ratings as 2.5 or 3, so the details are not settled. A guest should confirm the current rules and room type with the resort before arriving.
Playa Sonrisa Hotel
Private ResortPlaya Sonrisa is a clothing-optional, adults-only boutique resort in Xcalak, Quintana Roo, on Mexico's Caribbean coast near the southern end of the state. The resort lies along the coastline of the Xcalak National Marine Park and has a dive school. It is close to the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, which is part of its draw. Clothing is optional, but guests must be covered in the dining area at mealtimes. The age limit is 18, and the resort is mainly for couples. Families may be accepted in July and August with prior approval. The directory listing gives six rooms. Other listings describe a beachfront setting, free snorkelling gear, kayaks and paddleboards, and a bike rental. Sources differ on whether there is a pool and whether meals are served, so the amenities below should be checked before any trip. The resort has no official website that I could find. Rates and booking should be arranged through the resort directly.
Villa Aikia
Private ResortVilla Aikia is an adults-only, clothing-optional boutique hotel on Playa Camarón, between the Zipolite nude beach and San Agustinillo on the Oaxaca coast. Sources describe it as about 600 metres from the Zipolite walkway. The hotel has 16 to 18 suites, depending on the source, with ocean views and private terraces with hammocks. Shared features include an infinity pool, a restaurant, and a yoga shala, with yoga and guided meditation on request. Massage and wellness services are available on request. The naturist policy differs by source. Nude Beach Map says clothing is optional throughout the property, including the pool and outdoor areas, while Global Gallivanting says it is optional except in the lobby and restaurant. Guests must be 18 or older. Reviews on booking platforms praise the pool, the views and the service. Current rates and policies should be checked with the hotel, as they may have changed.
