About Whareakeake (Murdering Beach)
Whareakeake, also known as Murdering Beach, is a small sandy cove north of Dunedin, reached down a gravel road and a short walk through farmland next to Kaikai Beach. It was the site of a historic Māori settlement, and today its secluded sand is used informally for nude sunbathing. The surf can be rough and the water is cold. There are no facilities, so come prepared.
This New Zealand naturist beach is a clothing-optional place in a traditionally tolerated setting. Families are welcome.
Legal context
