About Waihi Beach

Waihi Beach is a long surf beach at the north-western end of the Bay of Plenty, with a holiday town along much of its length. FreeBeaches NZ lists it among nude bathing spots, but nude use is informal and best kept to quiet stretches well away from the township, houses and the patrolled swimming areas. To the north, a coastal track through the Orokawa Scenic Reserve leads to secluded Orokawa Bay. Check tides, as the track entrance can be cut off at high water, and be discreet near houses.

This New Zealand naturist beach is a clothing-optional place in a traditionally tolerated setting. Families are welcome.

Legal context

Naturism at Waihi Beach sits under New Zealand's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
