About Victory Beach

Victory Beach is the longest beach on the Otago Peninsula, stretching for 3.2 km north-east from the entrance to Papanui Inlet, about 24 km by road from central Dunedin and 7 km from Portobello. It is reached on foot from the Papanui Inlet side or along the shore from Allans Beach, and its length and remoteness make it one of Dunedin's informal nude beaches. The wreck of the SS Victory lies in the surf. Penguins and sea lions use the beach, so give wildlife plenty of space.

This New Zealand naturist beach is a clothing-optional place in a traditionally tolerated setting. Families are welcome.

Legal context

Naturism at Victory Beach sits under New Zealand's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
