About Tumbledown Bay
Tumbledown Bay is a secluded sandy bay on the south side of Banks Peninsula, reached from the Te Oka Bay road and a short walk. It is a quiet spot where nude sunbathing has long been accepted. The bay faces the open Pacific, so the water is cold and swells can be powerful. There are no facilities apart from basic parking, so bring supplies and take rubbish home.
This New Zealand naturist beach is a clothing-optional place in a traditionally tolerated setting. Families are welcome.
Legal context
Naturism at Tumbledown Bay sits under New Zealand's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
