About Sandfly Bay
Sandfly Bay is a sandy bay with huge dunes on the southern side of the Otago Peninsula, about 15 km east of central Dunedin. It is a Department of Conservation wildlife reserve reached by a steep walk of around 20 minutes down and 40 minutes back up, and its remoteness makes it one of Dunedin's informal nude beaches. Sea lions haul out on the sand and yellow-eyed penguins come ashore in the late afternoon, so keep well away from wildlife and never block their path to the sea.
This New Zealand naturist beach is a clothing-optional place in a traditionally tolerated setting. Families are welcome.
