About Ryans Beach
Ryans Beach is a remote beach on the northern side of the Otago Peninsula, next to Victory Beach and reached by a farm-track walk. Its isolation means you may have it almost to yourself, and nude sunbathing is common. Sea lions and penguins use this coast, so give wildlife plenty of room. The water is cold with strong currents, and there are no facilities.
This New Zealand naturist beach is a clothing-optional place in a traditionally tolerated setting. Families are welcome.
Legal context
Naturism at Ryans Beach sits under New Zealand's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
