About Rødhus Strand
Rødhus Strand is on Jammerbugten, the long, open North Sea bay in north-west Jutland, in Jammerbugt Municipality. The nude beach is the stretch of coast in front of the Tranum military shooting range, between the beach accesses at Rødhus and Ejstrup Strand. Cars are allowed on the sand here, so most visitors drive along the beach and park near where they settle. From Rødhus, the nude area starts after about 1.5 km at a small stream, beyond which the military area begins. Most naturists drive roughly another kilometre past it. The coast is wide sand backed by dunes. Regulars split it informally. The stretch from the E78 marker towards E76 is used mainly by families and couples, and the 400 m beyond E78 is a gay men's meeting area. On warm summer days many naturists come, but the beach is long enough to keep hundreds of metres from your neighbours. The sand is soft further south, and cars often get stuck. The beach can be closed during military firing exercises, so check the schedule for the Tranum range before you go.
Getting there
Drive to Rødhus Strand, west of Pandrup, and go down onto the beach. Turn left and drive about 1.5 km to the stream where the military area starts, then continue roughly 1 km more. From Ejstrup Strand, turn right on the beach and drive about 2 km to the stream. The sand is loose in places, especially to the south, so avoid soft patches. There are no facilities along the nude stretch. Check Forsvaret's notices for Skydeområde Tranum for closures during exercises.
What visitors say
Visitors praise the space, the open sea and the chance to spread out far from others. Comments from 2021 to 2023 say harassment has grown worse. They describe men staring at women, making remarks or walking around exposing themselves, especially near the gay area beyond E78, and families and couples are advised to stay in the E78 to E76 section. Several people warn about cars getting stuck in soft sand, and one advises against swimming alone in the surf.

Legal context
Denmark has no specific naturism law. Since a 1976 Justice Ministry decision, nude bathing on beaches is not in itself considered indecent, and police treat it as generally permitted unless it offends or harasses others (Ordensbekendtgørelsen §3(2)). The nude stretch lies in front of the Tranum military range and can be closed during firing exercises. Danske Naturister's guide warns about voyeurs.
Naturism at Rødhus Strand sits under Denmark's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.

Naturist status confirmed against an official source on 24 October 2026.
