About Peka Peka Beach

Peka Peka Beach is a quiet stretch of the Kāpiti Coast north of Waikanae, reached from the small seaside settlement of Peka Peka just off State Highway 1. Long sand and dunes run north towards Te Horo, and the stretches away from the beach access are used for informal nude sunbathing and swimming. Guides to New Zealand's nude beaches regularly list it. There are no facilities, and vehicles sometimes drive on the sand. Kāpiti Island lies offshore, and sunsets over the Tasman Sea are a highlight.

This New Zealand naturist beach is a clothing-optional place in a traditionally tolerated setting. Families are welcome.

Legal context

Naturism at Peka Peka Beach sits under New Zealand's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
