About O'Neill Bay

O'Neill Bay is a remote black-sand beach on Auckland's wild west coast, just north of Te Henga / Bethells Beach in the Waitākere Ranges. Getting there means a walk over the sandhill or along the track, sometimes with a stream crossing, and its isolation has made it a favourite with naturists. The west coast surf is dangerous with strong rips, so swimming is risky. There are no facilities.

This New Zealand naturist beach is a clothing-optional place in a traditionally tolerated setting. Families are welcome.

Legal context

Naturism at O'Neill Bay sits under New Zealand's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
