About Rarawa Beach
Rarawa Beach is a long sweep of brilliant white silica sand on the east coast of the Far North, near the settlement of Ngataki. A Department of Conservation campsite sits behind the dunes, and walking away from the access point quickly brings you to empty sand where nude sunbathing and swimming are informally accepted. The water is clear and usually calm. Facilities are limited to the campsite, so bring supplies and sun protection.
This New Zealand naturist beach is a clothing-optional place in a traditionally tolerated setting. Families are welcome.
Legal context
Naturism at Rarawa Beach sits under New Zealand's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
