About Moturoa / Rabbit Island

Moturoa / Rabbit Island is a long, narrow island across the southern end of Tasman Bay, about 7 km west of Richmond and connected to the mainland by a bridge. Its ocean side is an 8 km sweep of sand backed by pine forest, and the quieter stretches well away from the main car parks are used for informal nude sunbathing and swimming. The island is a recreation reserve that closes at night, with no overnight stays. Picnic areas and toilets are near the entrance, and the rest is open beach.

This New Zealand naturist beach is a clothing-optional place in a traditionally tolerated setting. Families are welcome.
