About Lough Ennell
Lough Ennell is a large lake about 3 km south of Mullingar in County Westmeath, in the Irish midlands. The Irish Naturist Association lists its north-west shore around the Ladestown shore car park as a naturist location. This is not a beach in the coastal sense: from the car park a paved lane runs one way along the shore and a pebble path the other, and naturists look for quiet spots along the water's edge on either side. The main public swimming area on the lake is elsewhere, at Lilliput, which is a designated bathing water and draws families; Ladestown is quieter. The lake is a protected wetland site whose shoreline is partly managed for visitor access. Expect a lakeshore with pebble paths rather than a sandy beach. Little else has been published about naturist use here, so treat it as a discreet spot rather than an established nude beach.
Getting there
Drive south from Mullingar toward the north-west shore of Lough Ennell and park at the Ladestown shore parking area. From the car park, either follow the paved roadway to the right or the pebble pathway to the left along the shore to find a quiet spot. Walking distances are short and mostly level. Mullingar has a railway station on the Dublin-Sligo line, but no public transport to the shore was confirmed.
