About LHOTA, Stará Boleslav

Jezero Lhota is a flooded former sandpit near the village of Lhota, between Brandys nad Labem-Stara Boleslav and Mlada Boleslav, roughly 30 km northeast of Prague. Clear turquoise water, white sand and surrounding pine woods have earned it the nickname of a Czech 'Caribbean'. The whole site is fenced and run commercially, with paid entry and paid parking. Its nudist beach is one of the best known in the country and dates back to the communist era; Czech press describe it as the first public nudist beach in the former Czechoslovakia and as the largest in the Czech Republic today. According to the operator, the nude area takes up the entire eastern shore of the lake and part of the northern shore, giving more than 500 m of sandy beach. A screen separates it from the clothed beaches, and it has its own toilet block and two refreshment kiosks. The lake shelves off sand, and swimming is at your own risk; the operating rules do not mention a lifeguard. Dogs and other animals are banned from the site. Hot summer weekends bring large crowds from Prague to the lake as a whole, and the nude section draws a broad mix of visitors, which is why it is often recommended to people trying nude bathing for the first time.

Getting there

The lake is off the road between Stara Boleslav and Mlada Boleslav, about 40 km from central Prague; the operator gives its position as 50.2457 N, 14.6688 E. The site is fully fenced, with a large paid car park (Czech press mention roughly 1,400 spaces) and entry fees for adults; current prices are published on the operator's price list. The gates are open daily from 6:00 to 22:00 in season. From the entrances, walk around the shore to the eastern side, which is the nude section. Card payment is accepted at most entrances and kiosks.

What visitors say

Czech travel writers and press consistently describe Lhota as one of the country's best-known and most popular nudist beaches, praising the clear water, sand and pine setting, and recommending it to first-timers because nudity is a normal part of the place. The main drawbacks reported are the crowds and traffic on hot summer weekends and the entry and parking charges, as the whole lake is commercially managed.
