About Ga'ash Beach

Ga'ash Beach is a stretch of Israel's central Mediterranean coast about 22 km north of Tel Aviv, just west of Kibbutz Yakum and Kibbutz Ga'ash. It sits between the Herzliya-Shefayim area and the southern edge of Netanya. Sandstone cliffs run above a narrow, wild sand beach with no lifeguards or facilities. The beach is reached by footpaths down the cliff. It has been Israel's best-known informal nude beach for decades. The northern part, toward Netanya, is popular with gay men and is often called Ga'ash North. The southern stretch toward Shefayim is quieter and mixed, and has long been called the Shefayim nude beach. On a summer weekend you might find around 50 nudists spread along the sand, with clothed walkers and fishermen mixed in. Shade comes only from what you bring.

Getting there

Ga'ash is not signposted as a nude beach. Travel guides suggest a taxi or car to the Yakum interchange, near the Pundak Yakum roadside restaurant. From there, cross the pedestrian bridge toward the sea, walk across a field and over the dunes, and go down a sandy path through the cliffs to the beach. There are no facilities, the descent is steep and loose, and there is no wheelchair access.

What visitors say

Guides and visitors describe Ga'ash as the most established nude spot in Israel, with a regular weekend crowd. The northern end has a gay social scene, and the southern Shefayim end is calmer. The scenery under the cliffs is praised, but visitors note the lack of any facilities or lifeguards and the steep path down. Some report cruising in the dunes. Accounts vary on how busy it is. It can be lively on summer Saturdays and nearly empty on weekdays.

Legal context

Israel has no designated nude beaches, and public nudity is not formally legal. Ga'ash survives on informal tolerance because it is remote and has no lifeguards. Guides advise discretion around families and children, and the beach is not an official bathing beach, so there are no lifeguards.

Naturism at Ga'ash Beach sits under Israel's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
