About FKK Strand Millstätter See

The Millstätter See is a long, deep alpine lake in Upper Carinthia, and its one long-standing naturist bathing area is at Pesenthein, on the north shore east of Millstatt town. Here a combined naturist and textile campsite runs a lakeside Strandbad that is split into a clothed part and a separate FKK part; the naturist section was added around 2000. The site covers about 15,000 square metres along the shore. The beach itself is narrow but well kept, with a sandy mound for children in the nude section, and the water is clear (the operator describes it as drinking-water quality) and reaches roughly 20-25 °C in high summer. Visitors are a mix of local families and campers. The main drawback reported by visitors is the lakeside main road that runs directly behind the bathing area, which makes it noisy. A snack bar serves the textile side. Beyond Pesenthein, naturists report informal nude bathing in quieter coves on the wooded, less built-up south shore of the lake, and from boats, but these spots are unofficial.

Getting there

Pesenthein lies on the lakeshore main road east of Millstatt. From the A10 Tauern motorway take the Seeboden/Millstätter See exit and follow the lake road about 7 km towards Millstatt and Radenthein. The bathing area belongs to the campsite and is reached from the pitches through a pedestrian underpass beneath the main road; campers enter free and day visitors pay an entrance fee (check current prices with the operator). The site is open roughly April or May to September.

What visitors say

Visitors who have used the Pesenthein FKK section describe it as clean and tidy, with a relaxed mix of families and campers. The beach is narrow, and the most common complaint is traffic noise from the lakeside road directly behind it. Swimmers praise the clean, warm summer water. Naturists add that quieter informal nude spots can be found in coves on the forested south shore, and that a water-sports school's raft is sometimes used nude out of hours.

Legal context

Nudity is limited to the operator's designated FKK section of the Pesenthein Strandbad; the adjoining part of the bathing area is textile. Austria has no general nude-bathing law, so nudity elsewhere on the lake shore depends on local tolerance; no ordinance specific to the Millstätter See was found (checked 2026).

Naturism at FKK Strand Millstätter See sits under Austria's rules for de facto tolerance — usually left alone if you keep it non-sexual and low-drama.
