About Fitzpatrick Bay
Fitzpatrick Bay is a small, secluded cove on the upper Waitematā Harbour shore in west Auckland, reached by a short bush walk. Its seclusion has made it a long-standing informal spot for nude sunbathing and swimming. The harbour water is calm but tidal, and at low tide the bay becomes muddy, so time a visit around high water. There are no facilities, and users are expected to keep the place tidy and respect nearby residents.
This New Zealand naturist beach is a clothing-optional place in a traditionally tolerated setting. Families are welcome.
Legal context
Naturism at Fitzpatrick Bay sits under New Zealand's rules for traditional tolerance — custom more than statute.
